Why vote for Obama

Barack Obama is our only good choice for President because he’s the only person we can trust to fix the mess the GOP has gotten America into.

Obama isn't invested in staying in Iraq forever. He's not afraid to regulate bankers so they can't steal our homes or raid the government's coffers. And he's willing to take our money back from oil companies. Only Obama can end years of irresponsible GOP borrow-and-spend policies.

But a win for Obama means so much more for the Tri-Cities and eastern Washington.

Obama will bring back a simple and fair tax system by eliminating taxes for 7 million seniors, cutting the taxes for 95% of all Americans and closing GOP tax loopholes for mega corporations and billionaires. If you make less than $200,000 a year your taxes will go down.

Obama has a clear message for you on health care: Every family should have a family doctor. And unlike McCain, he's not planning to tax your health benefits. For too long Republicans rationed health care by keeping it expensive. Obama will make sure ordinary people can afford good medical care too.

Every American should be able to afford to get to work. We can’t trust Republicans with our energy future because they just want to make their oil cronies rich tax free, but at the price of thousands of loyal soldiers’ lives. Barack Obama will give you your gas money back with an immediate $1000 per family energy tax rebate paid for by the oil companies.

And drilling for more oil at home is ok with Barack Obama, so long as oil companies pay and only after they have used the leases they already have.

Obama is ready to push nuclear energy because it’s the only way to secure our energy future. But he wants to manage waste responsibly so it’s part of the solution, and not part of the problem. This is great news for the Tri-Cities, because only with nuclear power are Hanford jobs a secure part of America’s energy independence.

And Barack Obama's moral compass points the same way as any person who has a conscience. He worries about the big issues like global poverty, climate-change or Darfur. Republicans deny these even exist. Obama not only recognizes them but he can do something about them because only he can get America's moral authority back.

If this sounds like the America you remember and long for again, then Barack Obama is your choice. But to succeed, he needs Democrats like George Fearing in Congress. Only Democrats are credible when they say they’re going to put American back on track. Democrats took control of the House in 2006, but Bush and Senate Republicans have stopped them at every turn.

Now look at the mess we're in!

Some people vote for a candidate because he or she is ordinary. I'm voting for Barack Obama because he is extraordinary. It's going to take a special leader to reverse the GOP mistakes of the past and his plan will work as well for the Columbia Basin as it will for the rest of America.
