Candidates to replace Grant announced By David Chassin, Sunday January 18, 2009 The candidates for nomination to the vacant seat left by Bill Grant's passing have been announced. Kathy Amarasinghe, the newly elected chair of the 16th Legislative District (LD) Democratic Central Committee has announced the list of candidates who seek to fill the 2nd Position for the 16th LD.
Neva Corkrum, Rebecca Francik, Bill Gordon, and George Fearing from Franklin County; Dante Montoya from Benton County; and Yolanda Cortinas Trout, Dale Johnson, Laura Grant Herriot and Dick Morgan from Walla Walla County have all submitted statements of candidacy.
The Democratic Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) of Benton, Columbia, Franklin and Walla Walla Counties will meet on January 31st to select three candidates to fill the vacancy. The names of those chosen will be presented by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee to the County Commissioners of all four counties who will then meet to chose the winner.
The winner will serve as the 16th LD legislator until a special election is held.
